In a previous blog post, we spoke about the dangers of idolizing creative gifts and the importance of repenting from that idolatry.
On the other hand, it is equally important that we do not adopt a nonchalant attitude towards our creative gifts. So how do we strike a balance?
We must acknowledge God’s purpose for our gift without allowing it to replace his supreme position in our lives. Ideally, we should seek to develop our creative gifts through intentional practice of our selected mediums.
But, our creative development shouldn’t be solely guided by our own desires, we must seek to invite God into that process.

Here are 5 prayer points for prophetic artists to understand their creative purpose more deeply and take action:
1 What’s the purpose of my art?
The why is always the most important thing to consider when committing to a long term goal. Having a solid understanding of your why will inspire you to continue the creative journey when you want to quit. Ask the Holy Spirit what is the purpose of your creative career and how it should glorify Jesus.
2 Who is my target audience?
Ask detailed questions about who your target audience should be. Example of questions can be “What are some of the characteristics of my target audience?” Or “How can I connect with them through sharing my testimony?” Finally, pray that the Holy Spirit will supernaturally connect them with you so you can best serve their needs.

3 How can I improve my creative work and process?
This point is focused on improving the overall quality and consistency of your content after getting a better understanding of you work’s purpose. Now think about your bigger picture goals and the habits you should be cultivating. Also consider some finer details like themes your art would surround.
4 Who are the people that should support me on my creative and spiritual journey?
Ask the Lord to highlight to you the mentors, friends and accountability partners who should help you along your creative journey. Also seek insight on the people YOU SHOULD SUPPORT on their creative and/or spiritual journeys.
5 How should I generate income from my creative skills?
Should you even be making income right now?
If yes, seek clarity on feasible streams of income and/or business ventures you should pursue (e.g. launching an online store, content creation or coaching classes). Additionally, take time to assess your financial goals and how these new incomes streams may help accomplish them.
My challenge to you this week is to spend time going through these prayer points in details and write down the important thing the Holy Spirit mentions to you.
