The Importance of Media Fasting for Prophetic Artists

POV: You looked at the top of your phone screen and it’s 2:30 am; you’ve been scrolling on social media for the past two hours.

Endless scroll, eye-catching visual marketing and algorithms that pretend to know your future are just a few of the features that make scrolling on our devices for hours on end seem unavoidable.

Excessive media consumption can easily become an idol for many prophetic artists if they aren’t strategic in guarding themselves from this addictive practice.

Now back from that intermission 🙂

  1. It becomes an idol in your life that you begin to priorities it over spending time with God. (Exo 20:3)
  2. You fall into the sin of covetousness ( Exo 20:17) through comparing your life to that of others.
  3. You can fall into confusion from listening to too many voices and opinions at once and can cloud your prophetic discernment of what God is speaking to you.
  4. You might lack focus and clarity in making important creative decisions quickly and effectively because you are overwhelmed with too many inspiration references.
  5. Increases susceptibility to media addiction and mental health issues.

“Media fasting” can help to dramatically reduce and eliminate the clutter of voices in the mind and to direct focus towards hearing God’s voice for spiritual and creative life
