Picture this: it’s the end of the business year and as a key stakeholder of your company, you join the board of directors for the annual review meeting.
This meet-up is unlike ordinary day-to-day scrum where you update your team on the current project’s progress. Its a deep dive into the company’s happenings, for the ENTIRE YEAR.
The big successes, the failures and the vision for the year ahead all unfold over a long table discussion.
Your presence in this end game meeting is critical. Your team’s success is dependent on you ability to effectively:
- Identify the successes of this year.
- Extract the lessons from the failures of this year.
- Develop and cast the vision for the year ahead.
But maybe you aren’t on the board of directors for a fancy fortune 500 company, so this analogy doesn’t apply to you.
WRONG!
Regardless of whether you work or where you work, you have a life, and you are a key stakeholder in your own life’s operations.
I, for the past 4 years, have made it a priority to do a personal yearly reflection and planning session.
Why?
It’s a tool that helps you reflect on your progress, celebrate your wins, and identify areas for improvement. That way you can make sure you’re heading in the direction you want to go.
Today I want to gift you the series of guided questions that I am using this year for my annual self board meeting.
A couple things you will need
I recommend setting aside some quiet time, free from distractions, with a journal or digital notepad AND video camera handy. Maybe a drink or snack on hand incase you need to sip or munch halfway.
Reflect on the following questions and let your thoughts flow freely.
Be honest. The worst thing you can do is lie to yourself and stop YOUR OWN progress.
2024 Personal Reflection Questions
What was 2024 like for you?
Was it a year of growth, challenge, joy or plain disappointment? Write your major thoughts and feelings about the past 12 months.
Next, think about your top 3 wins of 2024.
What were the top 3 moments or achievements that made your heart dance proudly?
How did you improve your relationship with God in 2024?
Did you spend intentional time praying, reading the Bible, engaging in praise and worship and fasting? Write about how you deepened your walk with Jesus.
OR, if you slacked off this year, talk about how that impacted you.
Who were the persons that contributed to my personal growth in 2024?
Who were your cheerleaders, mentors and partners in you growth for the year? Reflect on the impact they had on your life and express your gratitude for their support.
How did I nurture my creativity in 2024?
Did you pick up a new hobby, take “artist dates” and take time to make your imagination run wild? Write about the ways you kept your creative spirit alive.
Looking ahead to 2025, what are you most excited about?
Think about the opportunities, experiences and personal growth you’re anticipating. Capture your excitement and aspirations for the new year.
What are the top 3 goals you want to accomplish in 2025?
These can be personal, professional, or a mix of both. Write them down and elaborate on what it will take to accomplish them.
How can you improve your relationship with God in 2025?
Listen attentively to how the Holy Spirit wants to develop spiritually next year then write about your spiritual goals for 2025.
How can you give more In 2025?
Focus on ways you can give more in 2025. Whether it’s contributing financially to causes you believe in or volunteering your time to make a difference, write about ways you can positively impact those around you.
What habits do you need to let go of in 2025?
Are there behaviors or patterns holding you back from reaching your full potential? Write about the changes you want to make and the new habits you’d like to adopt moving forward.
Who are the Top 5 people I should focus on pouring into in 2025?
These could be friends, family or mentors who inspire you and bring out the best in you. Write about how you plan to nurture these relationships.
That’s a Wrap!
Based on your reflections, consider creating a video summarizing your year.
A 10-15 minute reflection video can be a powerful way to capture your thoughts and share your journey with others. It’s a wonderful way to see how far you’ve come and set the tone for the year ahead.
