If you were invited on a date, you’d likely get dolled up for it: a snazzy outfit, your favorite fragrance. And you’d definitely try to be early, even if you usually struggle with tardiness.
What If you made that same effort to show up for your creative self?
Plan a solo date. Put on your favorite fit. And do an activity that gives you a creative reset and an energy boost. Creating routines that make time for rest and getting to know yourself is crucial for preventing burnout as a prophetic artist
You know I’m all for practical creative activities that we can implement seamlessly in our routines. And I’m back with some more.
So without any more blah-blah-blahing, let’s talk about ideas for artist dates for prophetic artists.

Artist Dates 101
First of all, what on earth is an artist’s date?
This is a concept that Julia Cameron talks about in her book The Artist’s Way. She describes it as a weekly scheduled time alone where an artist spends quality time with himself or herself doing an activity that replenishes their spirit and creativity.
Just as you would nurture your romantic relationship with dates, you nurture your inner artist with this intentionally carved out quality time with yourself.
In her book she metaphorizes the inner artist as a child that needs intentional care in order to grow into their full potential. The artist date activities are seen as the tools that helps the artist better understand the needs of their inner artist child and nourish them.
I have found this to be an incredible practice in my own routine though, admittedly, I still don’t make time for it on a weekly basis.
I ALWAYS feel relaxed after an artist date and I have never regretted a single one I’ve ever done.

5 Artist Date Ideas for Prophetic Artists
- Do a bible study at a scenic location that you’ve never been to before. Find a scenic nature spot you like whether that be the beach or the woods or whatever it be. Nature naturally has a stress reliving effect on the body so you’d reduces your stress levels while nurturing your spirit with God’s word.
- Try a new art medium outside of your comfort zone. Sometimes we only stick to the mediums that we’re familiar with because we’re sure that we’re good at them. Trying a new medium will force you to think outside the box and be brave to try something you might initially suck at without fear of failure. This new medium could range from taking weekend pottery classes to crocheting to even trying out a new instrument.
- Prayer Walks. Yet another activity to boost the ‘stress-less’ hormones and connect with God. Bonus points if you treat yourself to your favorite food or drink or spend time with a loved one after.
- Try a new physical activity hobby. Your body will thank you for the movement and the endorphins. Suggestions: rock climbing swimming, walking or jogging, weightlifting.
- Play a game that will challenge your brain. Suggestions: Doing jigsaw puzzles, sudoku or even practicing a new language.
