Living a Prophetic Creative Lifestyle

More than God cares about my art, He cares deeply about my soul and desires that I have constant communion with him. My art should flow from the abundance, peace and joy that He has freely given me.

So far this is what I’ve been learning about the lifestyle of a prophetic Artist:

  1. Develop an intimate relationship with God through prayer, fasting, studying the scripture and worship. You don’t get to make art about God and not know him. Developing an intimate relationship with God protects you from idolizing the creative gift
  2. Ask God:Why have you given me this creative gift and how do you want me to use it in the church and/or professional space?” Don’t just assume an answer; seek God for clarity on your purpose.
  3. Heal from rejection. Many Christian creatives have felt misunderstood or rejected in the church or secular art space. This rejection may manifest in fear or intimacy, loneliness, among other things. The key to unlocking your creative potential is to heal from rejection so you can confidently pursue your call. Counseling or therapy can help with this.
  4. Seek mentorship. Ask God to point you to the right creative and spiritual mentor(s) who will guide and accelerate your journey.
  5. Seek Community. Surround yourself with other prophetic artists where you feel safe and are held accountable with your spiritual walk and creative goals.
  6. Hone your craft. Practice your craft consistently and invest in people and resources that will help you develop your craft.
  7. Pray and prophesy over your creativity led by the Holy Spirit.
  8. Teach others. Many Prophetic artists also have the gift of teaching. Be willing to share the wisdom and knowledge you receive with other creatives.
