Unleash Your Prophetic Art: Say Yes to Your Unique Target Audience

I could not hide my identity as an artist in high school: I wore my hair in unconventional ways, had an artsy Instagram feed and spent most of my time quietly working on concepts alone in the art room.

High school art class set the foundation for my artistry in drawing, painting and sculpture and whenever there was a student art display at school, I would get excited to show and tell my work.

Showing and talking about my work came effortlessly and I knew this would continue throughout my artistic career. While studying my Bachelor in Fine Arts degree, I transitioned to more digital mediums of art. In final year, I fell in love with experimental film due to its reminiscence of painting and I produced a series of short films.

I planned a virtual exhibition with a curation of some of the short experimental films I had produced, devising a strategy to market the show to my family friends and colleagues. I constantly asked for God’s direction during the planning process and by his grace, it all went well. This art allowed me the opportunity to process and testify to others of the season of pruning and emotional growth God had me in at the time.

Over 400 people turned out!

That was a massive jump from my previous high school audience. But still, I knew in my spirit that God wanted to do greater with my art, as long as I remain submitted to him. However, for quite some time I battled with how difficult it might be for a Christian, female, Caribbean artist to break boundaries in the international secular art world.

“Your art is not just for your family and friends. I am opening up opportunities for you to share your art with larger, international audiences. Your tribe will not only enjoy your art, but they will resonate with the themes of your art.

Not only will you make art but you will teach others to hone their creative and artistic abilities. I am raising you up as a prophetic artist. You will have unique storytelling and styles that will capture the hearts of art aficionados and draw them to Jesus. This is your mandate.  I have made you create authentic art through storytelling that glorifies my name.

Will you say yes to the call?”
