POV: It’s been a few DAYS and the canvas (or screen) for your big idea is still blank. What do you do?

Artist block: We’ve all been there.

The cry throughout this creative constipation is for the masterpiece to finally be birthed through the hands. During the time between ideation and execution the thoughts can get unbearably frustrating: This should be natural for me.

As I mature as an artist, I more deeply come into the revelation of patience as a key ingredient in the creative process. Patience is especially pertinent for the prophetic artist who trusts to the Holy Spirit to chisel their creative works to the final draft.

Impatience can allow us to unduly rush the process of stewarding creative revelations from God and can make us susceptible to anxiety when we start to consider deadlines.

The key to defeating an artist block is to learn to ask God the right questions. The right questions will bring you to the right creative solutions. While waiting for these answers, trust God’s pace in giving the creative insight that will excellently accomplish the task at hand.

Spiritual hindrances (such as demonic oppression) can prevent you from clearly hearing the Holy Spirit’s creative direction.

Having undealt with emotions can prevent you from properly expressing emotions to yourself, others and in your creative work.

Having an improper creative mindset can affect your creative process. For instance, if you aren’t confident in your creative abilities, that can manifest as an insecurity when creating.

Sometimes you’re just physically tired and you need to rest so you can produce better work. Other times you physical environment may not be conducive to creative work.

What is the root of my creative block?”

God, help me to tackle the root(s) of this creative block, ask you the right questions and trust your for timing for creative release.

Working through creative blocks is an ongoing process so be patient with yourself. Remember, “Picasso wasn’t built in a day” or whatever they say!
